What is Carbon Literacy Training?

Carbon Literacy Training gives individuals and organisations the knowledge, understanding and confidence they need to respond meaningfully to climate change. It helps people understand the carbon impacts of everyday activities and, importantly, identify practical actions they can take to reduce emissions both personally and within the workplace.

Rather than simply explaining the science behind climate change, Carbon Literacy Training connects the bigger environmental picture with the decisions people make every day. Participants explore where carbon emissions come from, how different activities contribute to climate change and what individuals, teams and organisations can do differently to create positive change.

The aim is to turn awareness into action. By developing a better understanding of carbon footprints and the opportunities for reducing them, employees can make more informed decisions and contribute more confidently to their organisation’s wider sustainability and net zero ambitions.

Effective Carbon Literacy Training also helps create a shared understanding across an organisation. When people understand not only what needs to change but why it matters and the role they can play, sustainability becomes something everyone can contribute to rather than it being the responsibility of one person or team.

About the course

Our Carbon Literacy Training is designed to help businesses and their people develop a deeper understanding of climate change and the practical role they can play in creating a more sustainable future.

The course explores the causes and impacts of climate change, helping participants understand carbon footprints and how everyday decisions can contribute to reducing emissions.

But learning is only part of the journey. We focus on turning knowledge into meaningful action, giving people the confidence to identify changes they can make within their own roles, teams and wider organisation

Through accessible, engaging training, participants learn how individual and collective action can support wider sustainability and net zero ambitions.

Whether you're looking to increase climate awareness, strengthen sustainable practices or inspire greater engagement across your organisation, our Carbon Literacy Training helps your people understand the difference they can make and empowers them to play their part.

Who is the training for?

Carbon Literacy Training can benefit people at every level of an organisation. Whether you’re setting sustainability goals, leading a team or looking for practical ways to reduce your own environmental impact, the course provides the knowledge and confidence to turn climate awareness into meaningful action.

For business owners

Understand how to integrate sustainability into your core business operations and identify practical opportunities to reduce your organisation's carbon footprint. Carbon Literacy Training can help business owners make more informed decisions, engage employees with sustainability and ensure environmental considerations become part of everyday operations rather than a standalone initiative.

For leaders

Give yourself the knowledge and confidence to guide your team towards more sustainable ways of working. The course helps leaders understand the role they can play in influencing behaviour, encouraging positive change and communicating sustainability goals clearly, helping to create a workplace culture where environmental responsibility is shared across the organisation.

For employees

Become one of the champions behind your company's sustainability efforts. Carbon Literacy Training helps employees understand how their everyday decisions can influence carbon emissions and provides practical ideas for making a difference. By empowering people to take action, organisations can turn ambitious sustainability commitments into positive changes throughout the workplace.

For individuals

Build your understanding of climate change, carbon footprints and the impact your choices can have. Whether you're developing your professional knowledge or simply want to make more informed decisions, Carbon Literacy Training provides practical insight into reducing emissions and contributing to positive environmental change at work, at home and within your community.

For teams

Create a shared understanding of climate change and encourage greater collaboration around your organisation's sustainability goals. Training teams together can help identify opportunities to reduce carbon emissions across everyday operations while creating people who can influence positive change more widely, including through relationships with customers, suppliers and other supply-chain partners.

The course was well delivered, engaging, really informative and very thought-provoking.

Carbon Literacy Training FAQs

What are the benefits of Carbon Literacy Training?

Carbon Literacy Training gives people more than an understanding of climate change. It provides the practical knowledge, tools and confidence needed to turn awareness into meaningful action. Participants learn how to recognise sources of carbon emissions, identify opportunities for improvement and make more informed decisions that can help reduce their organisation’s carbon footprint.

For businesses, this can help bridge the gap between sustainability ambitions and everyday action. When employees understand why reducing emissions matters and how their individual roles contribute, they are better equipped to support wider environmental, sustainability and net zero goals. Training can also encourage new ideas, strengthen employee engagement and help create a workplace culture where responsibility for positive change is shared.

The course builds confidence around climate conversations too. Participants develop the knowledge to discuss climate change more effectively with colleagues, customers, suppliers and other stakeholders, helping them become advocates for more sustainable ways of working.

How long does Carbon Literacy Training take?

Our Carbon Literacy Training takes seven hours to complete. The course combines learning, discussion and practical activities, giving participants time to understand climate change, explore carbon reduction opportunities and consider actions they can take within their own role or organisation.

Individuals can undertake Carbon Literacy Training to improve their understanding of climate change, develop practical carbon reduction knowledge and gain greater confidence in making more sustainable choices.
