As we are approaching an election on 4 July 2024, I wanted to share what I think we need from a new leadership in the UK.
During the first 6 months of this year, I have had several experiences that have shaped my thinking and expectations of what we need for women and girls to have equality and equity. From attending a Care International UK event at Parliament for International Women’s Day to joining #CSW68 as a UN Woman UK Delegate, I have heard so many stories about how strong, powerful and resourceful women around the globe are fighting the system to use their voice, keep their rights and have equal access to life systems. But we need more action from country leaders globally
We need a higher representation of women in decision making positions
- Peace
- Climate
- Community
- Government
Women and girls need fair and equitable access to
- Pay
- Education
- Access to credit and financial services
- Healthcare, sexual and reproductive
- Technology
We are falling short, and I am calling for a new government to step up, take accountability and show global leadership – in the words of Sim Bahous, Executive Director of UN Women:
When more women are economically empowered, economies grow. When women are represented in government, governments thrive. When women are free to love their lives without the perpetual threat of violence, families flourish and businesses benefit. Where women have a bigger say in peace processes, peace is found sooner and is more durable
Who wouldn’t want this?
