At AG, we believe in creating opportunities that help young people grow, build confidence and broaden their horizons. That’s why we were proud to sponsor Ciara’s participation in the Camps International Kenya 2025 expedition.

Over several weeks, Ciara immersed herself in community projects, cultural experiences and personal challenges that pushed her outside her comfort zone and gave her a new perspective on the world. In her own words, she shares the highlights, lessons and lasting memories from a journey that has had a profound impact on her life.

Ciara’s Journal

This trip has been one of the most eye-opening and unforgettable experiences of my life. I arrived in Kenya excited but nervous, not knowing just how much this journey would change me. From the very first day, I was confronted with realities so different from my own, and every experience challenged me to grow in ways I never expected.

Community Projects

Our days began early, often before sunrise, and were filled with physical work. Building houses, deworming goats and renovating schools pushed me to my limits. There were moments when my muscles ached and I wanted to give up, but seeing the smiles of local families and children gave me the motivation to keep going.

One of the highlights was helping to build Mama’s house for a family of six. The pride I felt when we finished, and the gratitude shown by the family, was overwhelming. It made me realise how much many of us take for granted, from clean water and safe housing to the comfort of a warm bed. The contrast between my life and theirs left me feeling both humbled and deeply grateful.

Deworming goats was a rollercoaster of emotions. Some of the goats were terrified, and I felt a huge sense of compassion as I tried to calm them. Wrestling one out of a thorny bush left me scratched and exhausted, but when I succeeded I felt a real sense of achievement. Naming Kirby and Firby, the baby goats, brought unexpected joy and helped me feel even more connected to the animals and the people who cared for them.

Cultural Encounters

Meeting the Maasai tribe was one of the most powerful experiences of the trip. Their warmth, resilience and sense of community were inspiring.

Taking part in traditional dances, I felt both awkward and exhilarated, swept up in the energy of the moment. Listening to Mama Maasai share stories about the role of women in their community made me reflect on my own life and the freedoms I often overlook. Seeing the pride they take in their heritage, despite the challenges they face, moved me deeply.

I left with a greater appreciation for the strength found in community, culture and tradition.

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to AG Impact for sponsoring this incredible opportunity. Your generosity gave me the chance to experience a new culture, contribute to meaningful community projects and grow in ways I never imagined. The lessons, friendships and memories I gained will stay with me for life. Thank you for believing in young people and investing in opportunities that truly change lives.
